Dealt with this for 8 years before we moved. You can’t stop them without inconveniencing yourself. Just try to accept it. Do not spend your energy becoming irrationally angry about it like I did. |
This is the easiest solution besides letting it go. I would let it go. If your asphalt is breaking down, it is so unlikely to be from occasional cars turning around in it. It is likely a poor quality job. Who told you that occasional repeated turns would cause this to happen? An asphalt contractor looking to get business from you to repair it? That sounds just like something as slightly disreputable contractor would say. |
Hmm, maybe a remote controlled bollard? Or maybe just a speed bump would work, like this ones that kind of bolt onto the road? Just to deter people. |
That bugs me too. On my property, potential damage, drives my dog nuts. Irrational or not, it seems like an invasion of my space and it just annoys me. It happens a couple times a week for me and I am not in a cul de sac. |
NP. Because of our location, people use our driveway to turn around all the time. Nbd. I use other driveways for turnarounds sometimes, so I don't mind other people using our driveway. If you have substandard asphalt on your driveway, that's not their fault. Replace it with concrete, when the time comes. Problem solved. |
That's what happens when you live in the world. |
Op here. The cul de sac shape for our block is the hammerhead/t shape.
I’m not sure if people get nervous and fear they would need to back up or what the issue is. There is also street parking going on for a few homes leading to ours. |
Op here. It’s happening multiple times daily. We just moved to the neighborhood last month and when we visited we never had anyone pull in and turn around. A friend who does work like this locally shared he has seen some homes driveways develop dips in the neighborhood from simply turning their tires in their own driveways. Why the material was used here I have no idea. There is an HOA so I am sure any concrete may need to match the color of the standard asphalt. |
No. It's not. |
Are you all channeling Gladys Kravitz all day and staring out your windows 24/7? |
This would stop me! |
I get it - our summer house is at the end of a cul de sac and we get tons of turnaround traffic on the street in the summer. No one uses our driveway because it is uphill, but those who don't turn around in the circle do use our next door neighbor's driveway (second to last like you) which I've never understood. And twice those turnarounds next door have taken out our mailbox post when they back out.
You could put out a sign saying "No Turnarounds in Driveway". I've seen those places. |
A$$hole sign. As a neighbor, I would stay far away from you. Maybe that would make OP happy. |
+1 |
Neighbors can turn around in their own driveways. The signs aren't meant to be hostile to neighbors, only to people who are outside the neighborhood and should be using the circle to turn around. |
