Kudos to the OP on this thread. What a nice idea for a change here!
We enjoyed the first day of the season yesterday. The club clearly made an effort to make the day special for the younger teams and had a full day for them with DC United and the Spirit and their mascot present, little free give-aways for all of the players (home and away teams), and music playing when you came in. They had tents up for all the teams (not that we needed them; it was a really nice day!). They had corn hole and soccer tennis and some other things (hula hoops and a tug of war rope I think) for kids who wanted to hang out. It was a nice effort to make the day special for the kids. |
Agree with this! And it was nice to see other kids/parents/coaches who either stayed after their game or arrived early to enjoy the festivities. Usually it’s just a passing “hi” or “bye” as you leave while they are arriving or vice versa. |
It was nice that Valor hosted the opening day and for NCSL to allow them to run the events and games all at Sully Highlands Park. So much fun. |
For rec or travel? |
|
My 13 yo center D nailed a free kick for a perfect goal. While that was great, what I loved more was the huge bear hug her coach gave her when she came off at the half.
That man has done more for her confidence than my sideline cheering ever could. He’s an amazing coach and we’ve been blessed with him for 2 years. (And thanks, pp/parent/stand in ref! I’m glad the parents treated you well!) |
No one cares about rec enough to bother with all that. |
It was also addressed above when someone said Valor. |
| Valor doesn't have a rec league? |
They had a rec all star tournament last year so they must have a rec league. |
| Valor is the travel side of CYA & SYA. They merged the clubs for travel a few years ago. Valor staff run the All-Star tournament on behalf of the two rec clubs. CYA and SYA "own" Valor, so to speak. |
Nope, Valor financially separated from the community orgs so they could keep their profits in-house. They happily use CYA's tued field permits though for games and practices (eg Sully park fields), while CYA rec kids play games and practice on terrible grass fields. |
| Don't get your hopes up. It's tryout season now for all the other clubs besides the elite level. |
It wasn't on behalf of the CYA rec kids. It was to take all star fees from CYA rec kids for Valor's profit. The CYA kids and coaches wanted to play in the other, good tournament that they always played in but Valor saw an opportunity to make money. Yes CYA kids paid full price. The tournament was terrible and the people running it did not care because they were guaranteed the money from CYA regardless of quality. CYA should have been embarased to go along with it |
| Alright lets spin that positively! Ripping off the rec kids gave them the extra funds to throw a nice party last weekend for their own players! |
What would starting salary be for Paris Saint-Germain Football Club? |
