| That Macy's is a true landmark for the area, but they do no more business that the two at Fair Oaks Mall combined. Inside it's like every other Macy's, a damp, musty smell that you can never escape. |
I definitely feel safer in and around downtown DC than in downtown LA which is Skid Row adjacent. |
All the Macys have that same unique musty smell. Even the one in Riverside (Calif) and the one in the Bronx (Parkchester). It’s amazing how they all smell the same. Must be the same carpet cleaner. Department stores in Europe and Asia are much more fun and interesting. Maybe the downtown Macys should open up a food hall like the KaDaWe in Berlin or the Marks & Spencer dept stores. |
It's always so sad to see people depriving themselves because they're too stupid to understand statistics. You're more likely to get hurt in your car driving to whatever suburban strip mall you go since you're too scared to go into DC. Stop watching Fox news and maybe the brain worms will die. |
World’s largest cannabis dispensary/retailer? |
Too bad Macy's ever acquired Woodies: Woodward & Lothrop. |
Woodies and Wannamakers (which Woodies owned) were bought out by the chain that then owned Hecht’s. The May Company I think. That was back in ‘95. |
Charming approach. Name calling and phony stats to bully people back to DC.

| Well, I hope it comes true. I live near downtown and the crime has been pushing us to leave. But interest rates and the market being what it is, we’re not going anywhere soon. The council hasn’t changed its tune completely on crime, especially youth crime, which has been horrifying. They need to do a complete 180. It would be a miracle if dc could bloom again. |
| Eh I’m very wary about crime, pro law and order, etc but I’m long downtown DC. I think the key is office to apartment / condo conversions so more people live there. If you de-ghost town the place it will end up being lovely. After all the architecture downtown is great and there’s a lot of potential. |
| DC needs to get crime under control for sure. But the trends this year are promising. One thing I know - DC’s crime rates could plummet for the next five years and the bitter suburbanites on this forum will still be talking trash about the city, because they really just don’t like cities. |
I shop at City Center alot. I was pleased with the article. My favorite store, Scalon Theodore, said that they are thriving at City Center. I have seen many more police there and never feel unsafe. I go into Ferragamo, but never LV or Chanel. They do have a lot more security. |
I live and work in DC. DC is PACKED ON THE WEEKENDS. My husband and I laugh and say - yup, everyone is afraid to go out! You not coming to DC is your loss, not ours. |
DC isn’t DC w a real downtown anymore. Macy’s is just sad. I hadn’t been in one (to shop) for many years and went in recently looking for prom wear for my teen. It was so blah and uninspiring. Asked to order something online and was told it could not be delivered until after the prom (April 20) because it was being shipped from the manufacturer aka China. SMH |
Seriously. Last weekend I was in Penn Quarter near Jaleo. Mobbed. With people buying $$$ meals. Same in Georgetown last night. If you think DC is a ghost town any time of the week, you're mistaken. And you're missing out. |
