Son broke lamp at beach rental - how much is it going to cost?

Only if they bought it at Marshalls! We paid $500 for our lamps.

Look at the label and see if you can order a replacement of same exact lamp. Pretty easy to buy online and have it delivered to the house.

No one is stupid enough to spend $500 on a lamp in a rental.

And yes a lot of rental properties are decorated with things from Marshalls or (heaven help us) Home Goods. The dirty little secret is out!

This. Or buy a new one at Walmart. We broke some glasses at an AirBNB and just bought new ones at the grocery. They were very thin glasses, obviously.

I broke something at a rental property this summer. I found an equivalent replacement and messaged the owner and apologized and asked if I should purchase the replacement. She said yes and I ordered it to the condo.

Did you buy the damage waiver policy? Maybe nothing.

For a lamp in a rental? That seems ... not smart.

And clearly you've never been to Marshalls if you think lamps there are $150. Hilarious.

This is the proper way to do it.

This is a stupid suggestion. What kind of house do you live in? Would you not notice? Are you blind?

Absolutely.

Bike on back enclosed porch broke through a glass window. We went and got glass and had it fixed. Be an adult. Take responsibility.

Me again. Ignore the $500 poster. I could go to Target and buy a good enough bedside lamp for $50 so that is what I would charge. Anyone putting a $500 lamp in a rental needs their head examined. I have under $50 lamps in my home.

Only if you ask. I would rather select a lamp in my taste for the $50.

I have been on both sides of this.

My child once broke something small in a rental condo- I contacted the owner apologizing and offering to replace it and they said don’t worry.

I now own a rental myself. I - or my cleaners- would absolutely notice if a lamp was broken. I would not charge you to replace an item under $250 or so, it’s just the cost of doing business. But if you ruined my couch, broke my tv or another large appliance, I would withhold the deposit and/or reach out to the rental platform and file a claim. Either way I would appreciate the heads up.

For a rental home? Sounds nice!

Afraid it’s no secret. It’s obvious these places are «decorated» with bottom of the barrell.
