Mine saw that the dishwasher was full of clean dishes and unloaded it without being asked.

next goal, noticing that the trash can is full and emptying it

When he was 8 his mom died. His dad remarried. Then his dad died. His stepmom remarried, and she and his stepdad pretty much ignore him.

They’re both in sixth grade now. A few months ago DS started tutoring him in math. His grades went from D’s to B+.

This made me tear up.

They're amazing! Both your kid, and the other child who has dealt with so much in such a short period of time.

Mine is a regular good kid. Good grades, does her work without having to be nagged, that sort of thing. Today she told me that she realizes that she's "mean" sometimes (surly, not mean to be honest, and usually when stressed), and she's going to work on fixing it. I'm glad that she is getting mature enough to have some insight about herself.

Amazing artist, like talent that shocks people.
Stylish and gorgeous
Friendly and social- this is also a downside because she often feels lonely and like she has no true best friends
Responsible and kind

What a sweet story. Thank you for sharing it. Kids give me hope.

I'm a single mom and my college freshman son gave me Panera gift cards for my birthday. He said, "I remembered that you said how nice it was to not have to think about dinner."

My kids are great in many ways, but full dishwasher means leave dirty dishes in sink. My son will take out the trash if full . My daughter will just start putting trash on kitchen counter!!! No complaints though. This is their biggest transgression, so I feel pretty fortunate. If I was half as good as my kids, when I was growing up, I would feel better about myself.

My DC is a talented athlete who is dealing with an injury that may derail dreams of competing in college. They're handling it with tremendous grace and maturity. They have every right to be angry and resentful but they're not. Instead, they're studying hard, doing PT and supporting their teammates. It speaks so much about their potential for future success, and it has taught me a lot about rising to challenges.

Wow! What an amazing kid! A big ovation for your son and his new friend. He's really in the minority of 11 or 12 year olds who would do that without be asked.
I love this story!

This may be the sweetest story I've read on DCUM. Also tearing up!

My son is doing well enough in school and teachers say to me "you're doing a good job Mom!" which of course is nice to hear. But my son is nice to my face - when I drop him off at school he always says he loves me and wishes me a good day.
