No, they don't. A lot do have a weighted GPA >4.0 but that doesn't mean their unweighted is a 4.0. My kids' HS posted the "all As" and "A/B honor rolls" in the school hallway and that "All As" list was really not that long. And then you'd have to keep that up every quarter to have an uw 4.0.

Mine had 3.8uw/4.2w and 3.7uw/4.1w and had plenty of college options they were happy with.

Our HS won't do all As list because it hurts some kids' feelings, apparently. There's a magnet program in the HS, and the all As students are mostly those magnet kids, probably.

I think UW matters more. My Senior has an UW 4.0--and he didn't have As every quarter or even at semester--but Final grades were all As. He got into some very selective schools(no hooks).

He is at a tough private (not the big 3, 5, etc). He was in AP/honors route. His weighted was a 4.39. He had 5s on every AP exam and near perfect ACT.

Just seeing classmates and friends--the UW 4.0 seemed to matter more than the 4.6-4.7s that some of his public school friends had, but with lower UW GPAS.

I think everyone has above 4.0Weighted GPA but a true 4.0 UW is much less common.

This is OP again - do schools not do A minus anymore? I would say I got all As in HS but my GPA was like 3.8, thanks to a few A minuses.

Can you give examples of those college options?

Don’t do it PP! You’ll get cut down no matter how happy your kids are.

Huh? I’ve got a kid in that range…need ideas.

I posted above you. Yes- my kid had some A- quarter and semester grades--but pulled them up to As by Final grade.

Yes uw is most important

Straight As includes A- too, right?

On the CDS, some schools report weighted GPAs, so they look artificially high.

I see a lot of high school transcripts and many do have a 4.0, or close to it, but not many students have full rigor. This will vary by school, but it holds at our high-achieving public in a large metro area.

Sorry. I’ve been on this site too long. I assumed some a$$hole would hear the list and say “I’d NEVAH let my genius go such a school!”

At our school an A- and A are calculated the same.

We're in Montgomery County Public Schools and an 89.5 is an A, no A- grades given on the report card. Also, they "average" the two quarter grades to come up with a semester grade. If DC gets a B one quarter and an A one quarter, even if their "average" is an 86% or something like that, it becomes an A on their report grade. Total grade inflation.

This definitely matters -- what gets shown on the transcripts. There are HS that will report semester or even quarter grades on a transcript while others only report the final year grade. That was the saving grace for my DD with ADHD, her quarter grades bounced around a LOT but she was always able to pull it together to have at least a B on the transcript and As more often than not.

At our school, there is no difference between a 90.0 and a 99.9. They do not assign a plus or a minus to the letter A. I believe all that matters is the final grade in the class, so if the student has a quarter with a B, that doesn’t impact the GPA unless the B was low enough to make the final grade below the A range.
