Unfortunately, they're just empty words. The state of security in MCPS is in actuality not in a good place.

The code of conduct is selectively enforced at schools. There is no consistency and most infractions are ignored. She did not mention any concrete actions that MCPS is going to take to address concerns. I did not see the point of her email

So true and don't even get me started on the bathrooms! I half expect to walk in one day and find a group of kids reenacting scenes from "Planet of the Apes" with poop flinging escapades! It's like we're in the middle of a toilet crisis of epic proportions and the school administration is pretending it's just a mild inconvenience.

To me, as a long-time MCPS parent, it made me feel more "heard" than previous messaging on this topic. Even just mentioning suspension and expulsion as options is a step further than earlier Superintendent emails on the subject.

Basically, within the confines of political realities, I think this suggests she is willing to move in the direction of more accountability.

While I appreciate Dr. Felder's transparency, the Student Code of Conduct has been the same for at least the last five years. Take a closer look at the document. Look at the examples of behaviors and the expected school response. Notice how extreme a behavior must be in order for the student to experience a real consequence.

What do you consider a "real consequence"?

Perhaps a suspension or some other inconvenience for the parent who lets their children do whatever they want to disrupt the learning environment.
