| I’ve never used a desk to do homework and neither does my kid. |
| I try not to care but then she leaves pencils in her bed, bits of pencil shavings, scraps of paper. Her desk is covered with stuff though. |
| I don’t like it, but I pick my battles and this isn’t one I’m going to pick to make a big deal about. |
| My son who is now at a top ten school is d doing fine always did homework on the bed or sitting on the floor. |
| Another who doesn’t care. I’ve found mine laying on the pool table. It got done and that’s all I cared about. |
| What do you think college kids do? |
| God, some of you suck joy out of life |
|
Could any of the desk proponents please explain why it matters?
I think of myself as fairly rigid/uptight/rule-following, but can’t fathom this for the life of me. |
|
No. She gets straight A’s, takes hard classes, excels at her extracurriculars, plays a sport, is healthy and helpful, has a lot of friends, and is generally joyous. I’m so happy she found a system that lets her be comfortable enough to be successful.

And? |
| They sit in a hard chair at a desk at school 6 hours a day. Give them a break. Most office workers have soft chairs at least. |
This. The kid sits at a desk all day in school. Let them be comfortable. |
Because if you ever end up with sleep issues, they’ll tell you “bed” is for two things that start with “s” and “study” ain’t one of them. However, at their age, I’d rather they make that substitution and so we allow both to do homework wherever they can best get it done. One is and always has been a good sleeper. The other? Not so much but they’ve got a 4.0UW and seldom complains of being tired. Until they go to bed on a Saturday night at 7pm and barely make 10am Mass. Regardless, it’s not the battle we’re choosing to fight. |
This. Not doing homework = battle Laying on your bed doing your homework = doing your homework = no battle |
|
No but I do my work in bed too.
