Why is it so hard to find a primary care doctor taking new patients?

Dr Hahn at JHCP Montgomery Grove is a new doc but my dh really likes his physical with him - good listener, very thorough, quick follow up on messages. He seems to be taking new patients. He’s the only doc I’ve seen at jhcp taking new patients this year near rockville.

DP. If you want to sign on as a new patient, do it now. Nobody good stays open for long, and if you delay, that does not become their problem.

If you can afford a Concierge practice, it’s like old fashioned medicine. Same day appointments, 2 hour physicals and I have the doctors personal phone number. When she is on vacation, another Concierge doctor covers for her. Well worth it if you are older or have chronic medical issues.

It's this area. Too many people, too few good doctors.

I take my kids to Johns Hopkins Community Physicians in Rockville and they are accepting new patients with availability next day, sometimes same day https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/community-physicians/locations/rockville-pediatrics

Movement to concierge practices to make more money and have fewer patients

I joined One Medical and have been very pleased so far. They just opened a new location at Pike and Rose.

They Family Healthcare in Germantown; there should be a few docs taking new patients. Give Avi Schacter, MD a try, or ask who is taking new patients - they have several. I liked the PA, too.

I'm in VA but have been meaning to make an appt with a primary care doc for a while. I saw recommendations for someone and went to make an appt - first available for a new patient was November. That's ok... I'm not in a rush. I made the appt then rethought the date and was going to adjust it. I guess she had a cancellation because I was able to get a slot next week! Yippee.

Because the AMA caps seats in medical schools and residencies. Only 30% of docs are members but they control the industry like any cartel.

I do not believe this is true. My understanding is that it’s the lack of residency slots that limits the number of doctors and I do not believe the AMA has anything to do with the # of residency slots because I believe they are supported by federal government funding.

I’ve seen this discussed many places but here’s one example:

Is this an Amazon company? And is it concierge?

Who exactly do you think shows up to lobby against the expansion of federal funding for residency seats?

Who exactly do you think shows up to advocate against opening more medical schools?

Very naive.
