Travel and car seat dilemma

The rental car place will have them! You’re talking about LAX, not remote Alaska. They never guarantee them, it’s fine. They’ll have them. If the rental car place catches fire that morning, you can figure something out at Target. No way I would be lugging car seats around or checking bags just because the rental car companies don’t guarantee car seats. They have always had them in our experience.

Mifolds are awful. I would honestly just use a regular seat belt for the year old.

And pretty sure nobody takes donations of used car seats because there’s no way to guarantee it hasn’t been in an accident.

We recently flew with a 3yo and a 6yo. We brought a Cosco Scenera car seat for the 3yo since it only weighs 7 lbs (gate check) and a booster for the 6yo since that is trivial (overhead).

It allowed us to skip the car rental entirely and just do ubers.

We could also fit both of these onto a cheap travel stroller (gate check) with a car seat travel strap bought off of amazon. The 3yo then sat in the car seat while in the stroller, on top of the normal seat, while the booster seat was tucked below in the stroller storage. Really easy for travel.

I think your plan is fine. If you had more time I would tell you the best travel seats but given the time crunch I would just go with buying a cheap lightweight seat there.

I don’t like wasting money so I’ve checked our convertible seat several times with no issues. I would do that. Put that seat and a backless booster in the sane bag and check them both. It’s free.

This. In my dad it was Cosco Scenera, I think. That just popped in my head. I'd do Bubble Bum for the 7 year old.
