I have two peaches three figs and a persimmon. |
Thirty years ago we bought a home with apple trees in the back yard. Everyday, deer would sleep, eat, and poop under the trees. We didn't mind it at first but when we wanted to use the area to play they got in the way. So we removed the trees. They kept coming in the yard so we fenced it in. They would scale the fence and still come in. We planted evergreens. The deer would still scale the 8 or 10 feet tall evergreens. It wasn't until the evergreens got to be 15 years of growth before the deer stop coming in. So now the deer sleep in the front yard and greet us when we go out front. |
Why do you want random people feeding on your front lawn? That's the bigger question here. |
People and animals will be eating. Sometimes the animals get sick and just drop dead in your front yard. Now you have a problem because the turkey buzzards show up and are feasting on the dead animal. Blood and animal guts is everywhere. on the walk and driveway. Kids going crazy and people walking pass the house. |
It's the cycle of life ma'am |
Montgomery used to have an ordinance against fruit trees in areas not confined by fences, but it’s rarely if ever enforced. But the reason was to discourage people from making attractive nuisances that encouraged undesirables from going into people’s yards to pick/steal fruit. |
Your local tick-density-per-square-meter has got to be through the roof. How many times have you have Lyme disease? |
I would assume that rule would be more for avoiding attracting wildlife. ![]() |

I have 5 apple trees and 2 giant fig trees in our yard. Adding a Cherry this fall. |
Serviceberries are beautiful and they have fruit that birds love |
My parents have had a big persimmon tree and a blueberry bush in their front yard for decades and have yet to experience any of the apocalyptic things described here.
You guys know that squirrels and deer come into yards no matter what, right? It's the outdoors. |
I have a dwarf nectarine tree in my front yard. Other than the squirrels eating majority of the fruit, I haven't had any problems with random people coming in my yard to eat the fruit. BTW, the fruit produced was the BEST nectarines I've ever had in my life! |
Persimmons are neat! Not many younger people even know about them anymore. |
