Okay, this is a VERY specific case, though, involving a complicated situation at a school that is no longer structured the same way. It also wasn't a "magnet" class. It was a class that included magnet kids, but was taught at grade level because it was for kids who were not in the STEM magnet. |
This. ADHD and Montessori go together too well, so you are wise to switch before too long. My brilliant and super ADHD kid is thriving in public school (99% of both). I wouldn’t dismiss them so quickly if I were you. |
The bottom line is OP should not go into this thinking this type of scenario will be likely for her kid. I know a lot of parents of 2e kids and the best they are able to get is the GTLD program or being in advanced, AP type classes with support. |
Montessori is very flexible which seems to match with your child. Some kids if given that flexibility will do nothing but it seems like your kid works well that way. I suspect public school may be too rigid so keep that possibility in mind. The teachers expect you to do what they want at the moment they want it and it can be really hard for a lot of 2e kids to be micromanaged that way when they are not inspired. |
| Why would your child need special ed services? For ADHD they usually provide accommodations like extra time and chunking assignments so they aren't as overwhelming. |
