After high school. By summer after freshman year (he just turned 18) he drove home from college. It was 10 hours, but we had him stop at sleep for one night just past the mid-point.

He has been driving for a year, but it is pretty far away. I am really not sure when it's appropriate.


My mother made me drive my sister to NYC to drop her off at college from DC when I was 16 because she was on a business trip- I had only had my license for 10 months. Things were so different back in the day, LOL.

Mine is driving to the beach on Monday with his girlfriend. He is 17. I am driving separately so I will be around. I think it is good practice before actually driving completely on his own.
