Penalties for withdrawal before the end of the school year

I don’t think there’s anything you can do about OP. You could try just not paying the extra and see if they come after you—they might decide it’s not worth it—but if they do come after you, it’s technically in the contract language. Very crappy of them to use Google forms for a contract but I would guess it’s legal, although you could consult a lawyer. But unless that extra money presents a true hardship for you, I’d suggest just writing it off as the cost of escaping what sounds like a terrible school.

The fact that you signed an electronic contract and they don't give you a copy of your responses is really obnoxious. I would be so annoyed by that. Also, making you pay $1,400 over what is owed is a really gross, tacky move.

If you were only on the hook for $3,600 more dollars, being penalized for withdrawing is absolutely disgusting as it doesn't hurt the school, and it also sounds like you are leaving right during admissions season where they could offer someone on the waitlist a spot in your child's grade to keep enrollment numbers steady next school year.

It sounds like leaving this school is absolutely the right decision. Good luck!

We did not reenroll. We got snagged by the “or $5000, whichever is greater” language in this year’s contract.
