I agree, as far as the “seasons.” But it is good to know which colors look best on you. So if you go to someone with a good eye and they have all the color things maybe it’s worth it? There are a lot of colors I don’t even try on. I also think it’s just nice to have someone pay attention to you and your appearance in a positive way for that long. If the person has the right charisma, that can be a really fun experience. I’d rather pay for that than an escape room or a pedicure, personally. |
I did mine with Ashleigh in Midlothian. I loved it and I use the knowledge every DAY! It’s so easy to shop now. |
The very cheapest way to find your color season, btw, is to try on lipsticks. If you can spare half an hour or so at a MAC counter or store, you can probably get a pretty good idea. This is a good list: https://infinitcloset.com/color-analysis-test-using-lipsticks/
Rachel Nachmias also has good lists for each season; google her name + best lipstick dark autumn (or whatever). |
It’s not a scam at all. I thought it would be. But I loved it. It’s easy to shop now. I look better and get lots of compliments, and I feel confident. I questioned the money as well but it’s been so worth it for me. |
I did mine in Asia for $300. Even there it wasn't cheap! But it has been worth it. I have been wearing the wrong colors.
Greens and blues, cool tones are what I should have been wearing and now I get a lot more compliments! I used to love wearing reds- then come to find out, it's not my best. And black? I didn't know I looked so bad in it! |
Where can I do this myself online? I dont care much about make up but want to understand colors in clothing to look for / avoid. |
This is helpful. Her whole website is great. https://www.truth-is-beauty.com/what-season-are-you.html |
The Sephora skin machine will tell you your undertone if you don’t already know that |
I found it really inaccurate and all the foundations it suggested looked terrible on me (and the saleslady insisted they were great and I should definitely shell out $50 for something that did not match my skin tone at all) |
Where in Asia? I’ve been skeptical of using a service like this in the States because I need someone who can distinguish tones within East Asian complexions, whereas all the American websites I’ve seen have been like, “green veins, you’re olive!” |
NP. It's really not. That said, I wouldn't pay anyone to do this for me when you can do it yourself. I wish I had known years ago that silver jewelry looks MUCH better on me than yellow gold (I'm a winter). Knowing what colors suit you can make a world of difference. |
Oh this is fascinating! I read a whole bunch about this last night when I couldn’t sleep and I am a very clear cool winter. Interestingly I had already figured out a lot of the colors that look good on me (though I am struggling a lot right now with the neutral palettes that seem to be in style). But I have always struggled with makeup. I basically gave up on wearing anything other than mascara and eyeliner because I couldn’t figure it out. I have had some success with going to make up counters and they spend 30 minutes figuring out a lipstick but no one has ever found a foundation that works for me. Has anyone applied their color analysis to make up and if so what worked for you? |
I used Jeannie at Your Color Guru (all virtual). She was amazing. I knew I was an autumn, but it helped to have it broken down further. We also talked strategies for wearing “bad” but beloved colors.
I have a longtime client in the fashion industry, so I was pretty skeptical at the beginning. Jeannie totally won me over, though. |
I am in shock that this is back. So ridiculous, was a “thing” when my mom was my age. |
Shock? Really? Why do you care what other people find valuable? |
