Starting pay for an MCPS bus driver, who must keep everyone physically safe: $37,000. We can't find people who will do this thankless job. There are increasing numbers of school districts who don't provide bus service. It's not worth it. |
What moderately large, suburban school district stopped providing bus service? |
Yes call the bus depot. |
I think this is a great opportunity to talk to kids about "running their own race." Is the driver yelling at you in particular? Change your behavior. Is the driver yelling at other kids who are misbehaving? Well, then, that's not your business. |
| You think suggesting a rule refresher to the principal means the case is closed? Hysterical. Good luck to your kiddo! |
|
The principal should be held responsible for addressing this issue, including determining which students are causing problems and how the bus driver responds to misbehavior on the bus. I recall reporting behavior issues on the bus to the principal of my daughter’s elementary school. A few days later she was at the bus stop and rode the bus. There weren’t any issues after that.
Unless there are other issues with the driver, I suggest that calling the bus depot will not be helpful. Go back to the principal! |
| Go directly to the bus depot. You will likely get to talk to the driver’s supervisor so you can get some insight on what’s going on on that bus. Maybe the kids are out of hand or maybe the driver isn’t handling the stress well. But the bus depot is the only source for info and a solution. |
| The principal probably got 2 emails from parents about a yelling driver and 3 emails from parents who say their kid has been bullied and the driver does nothing. |
| OP- parents like you are driving employees out of the system. Either volunteer to help be a monitor or pull your precious snowflake off the bus. Imagine driving 30+ loud children while trying to keep them safe and tell me you don’t get stressed. So obnoxious |
Is that a thing? MCPS allows random parents to ride on the school bus? I don't think bus drivers or anybody else should be abusive, I think that's a minimum standard, and I would hope the bus depot managers would agree. |
Lots of elementary parents responding on this thread. Once your kid hits middle school when the real bus behavior issues get going, you'll find out that when kids are out of hand, principals have options. They can order recording footage, speak to the bus riders, and if out of hand kids don't change their behavior, they can temporarily suspend them from the bus. OP you could ask the principal to follow up with these students and their parents. But ask yourself this: do you care what student behavior is happening on the bus, or do you just want the bus driver to shut up and drive? |
Agree. The kids on the bus can be crazy. It's not safe for the driver to drive when they are being so out of control sometimes. If it bugs you that much, you are always welcome to drive your kid! |
No the lack of discipline is driving employees out of the system. Kids who do this should be kicked off the bus. Kids who disrupt class should be sent home. Parents should have to take responsibility for problematic behaviors. Not the parents just trying to provide a decent, peaceful, safe-feeling environment for their kids. |
We haven’t determined that the bus driver is being verbally abusive as yet. Just that some young kids don’t like yelling. |
Now we see why Kabongo got away with raping children on his bus. And why Vigna got away with sexually abusing children in his classroom for decades. MCPS doesn’t believe children. |
