Lots of homemade lassi (yogurt drink).
BRAT diet. Khichadi. - dish of lentil, rice, veggies. Aloe gel. Lemon water. Ginger tea with honey. Water with cumin, fennel seeds and caraway seeds boiled in it. |
| As pp said, BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast |
| When I throw up I always start with sips of water for 6-12 hours, then sips of ginger ale for the same time, then dry toast, then toast with butter and/or applesauce, then rice. That’s usually takes me to 2 days post puking, and then I reasses. More of the same if things still aren’t right. But I’m a wimp when it comes to stomach issues. I would much rather be hungry than nauseous. |
Go slow. Ramen or any kind of clearer soup (chicken noodle) is good actually. Because it’s salty, it will encourage you to drink liquids during or after. It also has liquid in it. Try some ginger ale or apple juice with it. |
+1 this exactly. Follow the BRAT diet! |
| Vodka. |

Coconut water, vitamin water, ice pops, applesauce. Toast with jam, dry cheerios, scrambled eggs.
I dated a gastro guy and he said the biggest thing people should know is that the second they feel recovered from any sort of gastro issue that doesn't mean they should eat egg rolls and McDonalds and heavy foods. Let your stomach gently recover for 48 hours by eating easy to digest foods. |
| OP I’d stay away from an egg for a bit. Stick w/ vitamin water, water, pedialyte, ginger ale, ginger tea, etc. I had this in Aug and craved sparkling beverages. I usually do add in ramen after a day or so. Otherwise, crackers, dry cereal, bananas, toast, plain carbs. Try some of those non-dairy probiotic drinks. |
| People overthink this way too much. Eat what sounds good to your stomach. Maybe start in small quantities. The BRAT diet is old advice that everyone remembers but is no longer medically recommended. |
|
Bananas, scrambled eggs, saltines. Start with just those for at least a day. Add additional things very slowly. Plain chicken, toast, pears.
I swear by bananas and eggs!! |
| BRAT for sure, but my go to's are always oatmeal, ice cold sprite (I like the feeling of burping after a stomach issue) and lipton soup packets. |

What are you hungry for? Eat that.
There's advice, there's tradition, there's cultural remedies/medicines, there's doctor's orders... none of that is going to be right for everyone. Bodies are specific. Think about food. What sounds good? unless it's something super out-there, like dirt or rocks or cat litter or something, you're probably not going to hurt yourself eating a properly-prepared, unexpired food. If your system is craving salty carbs and an egg, go for it. If you want broccoli and walnuts, eat those. We reject a lot of our own innate wisdom by deferring to outside sources. What worked for someone else may/may not work for you. Eat food, not too much, and see what happens. |
And HYDRATE. That's the bigger issue after a virus. Losing nutrients from either/both end(s) will leave you dehydrated. Try to address that ASAP. |
