GA vs ECNL in the DMV

From a framework perspective ECNL and GA are nearly identical. When GA was formed out of the ashes of DA they looked at everything ECNL was doing and copied it.

Girls ECNL has 10-15 very good clubs that could win in whatever league they play in (and most of these clubs aren't in the DC area). What this means is even if you win in the local ECNL league you'll likely get beat in champions cup. GA isn't as top heavy of a league so there's a better chance a DC team can win it all.

What's most important is that your kid is happy playing and GA or ECNL wins make the world go round. You don't have to win every game but you do want to win more than you lose.

Is your daughter born in 2010 or 2011, as a 13 year old now? I assume you're asking about the 2024-2025 club year?

So your daughter will be joining an ECNL/GA team for their 2nd or 3rd year of 11v11 play. Are you already living in the area and your daughter has been playing on a lower level club team or moving here from another state?

If you're already here, are you saying your daughter has been getting recruited by ECNL/GA clubs? If your daughter isn't getting recruited, she probably will have a tough time making it on one of these top level teams. Coaches pretty much know the local talent landscape if you live less than an hour from the club.

If you're moving here, decide where you're going to live with no consideration about soccer. Then look at ECNL/GA options 30 - 60 minutes away from home, depending on how far you're willing to drive. After attending practices with these teams, ask your daughter which one she bonds with the best. My opinion is don't play on a winning team where she won't enjoy playing.

One thing to consider is that if she plays for a team farther away, the outside, extra trainers will normally be near the club which kids go to. Do you know the outside trainers close to where you live if you're travelling far for the team?

$5K for a year sounds too low from my experience with my U15 ECNL daughter. Hope you find a good place for your daughter to enjoy playing.

GA is dying - there’s no two ways around it. You’ll have the GA parents of kids who don’t make ECNL tell you it’s great - don’t eat that yellow snow

Just not true. Especially this year with the FVU debacle you will seed notable ECNL players (starters) leaving for GA. The reality is clear, the insecurity is squarely on the familes who are 14-25 on ECNL rosters who are not getting the tape they need to benefit from the sizable investment made to only chase one league. College is essential in this country so I hope that 6k scholarhisp to a 60k schools was worth it.

More and more employers are removing that paper ceiling requirement, take that on top of the NCAA anti-trust lawsuits and you realize this whole thing is changing soon.
