I’d probably look at some mid-tier liberal arts schools but hard to say which ones would be considered safeties without more details and statistics about your child. Are you willing to share more information? |
| Sounds like he likes city schools. How about Macalester or Rhodes? |
| Do not use the word "safety" because it triggers people. Use the term "likely" if you do not want your head bitten off by the crazies. |
Not sure if they are safeties, but would provide very comparable experiences and education. |

Clark
Dickinson Gettysburg F&M Fordham Some of the schools mentioned elsewhere in this thread I think are meh for Econ (umbc or smcm) Macalester is a good thought, not exactly a safety but may be a likely if DC has the possible stats for Brown. Since there seems to be a west coast interest what about Lewis and Clark, Whitman or Willaimette? Occidental? |
None if those are safety schools these days. Maybe lower tier publics might be safetY schools for some, but not the public flagships. |
Agree |
Correct. “Safety”offends the less fortunate. So “likely” is good, or even better is “if you can fog a mirror.” |
My Brown student really liked Muhlenberg (her likely along with UMD). Also, interested in Bard, but wasn't into the spread out campus in the woods (I thought it was gorgeous, especially the Hudson river views). Would probably have considered Skidmore and Juniata if they had more of what she wanted. Vassar and Wes were targets. |

U Mary Washington, Elon, Christopher Newport.
Gettyburg, Franklin and Marshall. |

Not to pile on, but even for top students, Vassar and Wesleyan are not targets.
Mary Washington a great suggestion, maybe Loyola Maryland, Fordham and Marist as targets. For safeties I might look at schools with rolling admissions, see if there are some you’d like to visit. |
| Mary Wash is a great safety suggestion. Whitman is a good likely for a kid who digs Pomona, Colorado College, and economics. |

SMU
Villanova LMU |
Whitman a great thought for a Pomona/CC kid. |
| University of New Hampshire impressed us and DD applied there EA and was accepted. It was a safety, for sure, but she would have happily attended if she had not been admitted to UMCP the following month. |
