So what happens to GFR?

I’d be surprised if GFR isn’t more than fine, as long as they let NM do his thing.

It’s okay to be a club with an organized rec program for littles and a respectable travel program that gives local kids the chance to play competitive games in ecnl-rl and ncsl - but to not have a clear pathway to the absolute best leagues at the oldest age groups. As long as you own that, then it’s great. More clubs should just own it. So yes, gfr is going to be okay.

As a GFR parent, I hope you're right about that. But so far, despite NM being named the TD, I haven't seen or heard of anything that he's done for the benefit of the players/teams/club. And knowing that he, ML (the GFR Director of Coaching) and a few other DMV FC coaches are supposed to be working at GFR next year all while still working for Fairfax Virginia Union and, presumably DMV FC, does make me wonder how it's all going to work.

DMV FC is merging into GFR.

Not knowing coaching slate forces us to try out elsewhere. Thats bad for business. Once that happens most will churn away and go elsewhere.

What clubs have announced RL coaching slates? None. What RL teams have started tryouts already? None. RP - It’s time to move on, bud.

We will see soon enough what impact all the turmoil at GFR will have on tryouts. There are at least a few teams that may struggle to have more than 10-12 players next year because of player attrition to other clubs. That doesn't seem to be a concern for the GFR leadership, however. When all that's left of the club is a smouldering ash pile, what will they do then? Maybe they can all move over to MYS and help destroy that, too?

GFR will enter into a "pathway partner" with FVU. Along with several other area clubs. Doesn't mean much but establishes "a Pathway."

Because they benefited so much from the same thing with NVA?

Right. And now that the dumpster fire with McUnion politics is in full play, does GFR even want to deal with that as a small club? What would the benefit be? NVA clearly didn't play in their favor. Why would a McLean/Fairfax/Vienna partnership? And are they even interested?

Yeah, very rec mentality coming out of leadership over here!

If the past couple of months are any indication, I'm afraid the PP who said GFR would turn into a rec club might be right. The people getting paid to run the club now seem to be in radio silence mode. Rumors of legal maneuvering related to the firing of a couple of coaches might be part of the reason. But do they realize that there's a lot of upheaval going on with other area clubs right and tryout time is nearly upon us. If leadership doesn't start communicating to families, people will start looking at other clubs. And when enough players leave (and the revenue with them), then what are the XD and board going to be "in charge" of? The husk of a burned out non-profit?

So GFR is falling apart just because they fired a couple of coaches? There must be more to the story than this or there’s not much of a story to begin with.
