| Can anyone share insights if your kid came from a small private (but went to a Deal/JR feeder ES)? |
Can you share more about your kid's experience with the Biomed academy? My DC is interested in this academy (she loves biology, curious about healthcare careers) but we don't know any JR students who are in it. Thanks! |
How do students join the newspaper staff? This is def something my DD would be interested in doing. |
At the beginning of the year there is an activities fair. I believe the Beacon is pretty welcoming of kids and there are many roles. You can also contact the current student heads of the Beacon prior to showing up as a Frosh and I am sure they will tell you how it works. The Beacon is online (as well as print) and lists who are the student leaders and how to contact. |
They have an interest meeting every month, announced on social media. Just show up! Truly, it’s so easy. Anyone can join and sign up to write an article. There are separate visuals interest meetings, too, if you’re into graphic design, layout, etc. |
All sounds wonderful — thank you both for the responses! She’ll be very excited to hear. |
| Join lots of activities, they should learn how to advocate for themselves, for dealing with the class counselors in the first year being a bit of a helicopter parent probably helps do not necessarily leave it all up to your kid, chaos is overstated especially after the first year —someone who went to JR in the last decade |
That's really helpful--thank you! |
