Livermore, California. What's the vibe/housing market?

It was actually scott’s valley, but still… he commuted at 4am and was a bit of a nutter, but yes, he drove all that way.

Listen to the PP who said live in one of the other East Bay suburbs. Anyone encouraging you to commute from the South Bay (and BEYOND) is insane and likely hasn't lived in the area in the last five years (if ever). Personally, I would never live in Livermore, but I also enjoy a cool breeze.
