I only said that because I know that menopause and the hormonal changes associated with it can cause in weight gain. I thought the treatment would avoid that as it stabilizes the hormonal balance. The weight gain seems to coincide with the start of HRT so I’m surprised as I didn’t think it caused weight gain. Does that make sense? |
Is it, though? |
Progesterone and estrogen make me gain weight so it wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve taken them separately and together. Have you ever taken either before? BCPs? |
Agree |
Yes I took BCPs when I was younger. Did not cause weight gain. |
| I haven’t lost weight while on it but haven’t gained either. Maybe I would have gained more without it? |
I recommend following Dr Mary Claire Haver and read her book called The Galveston Diet, which focuses on nutrition during peri and menopause. She directly addresses the differences between subcutaneous fat and visceral fat and how they respond differently to exercise and calories in/calories out. |
| My weight loss dr likes Effexor - Wellbutrin is also effective for weight loss - and Prozac is weight neutral or people lose. You might want to talk about metformin (read the book outlive) - it’s effective in shifting belly fat and a lot of drs think it’s an excellent longevity drug |
| HRT doesn't have much of an impact on weight, it's definitely not going to make a difference |
|
HRT is not a weight loss tool. One side effect can be weight gain, similar to some women who gain weight on hormonal birth control pills.
It's all very individual and while HRT can help alleviate some menopause-associated effects, it's not a fountain of youth. |
Again, I am not taking it for weight loss. I already lost weight without it. I did notice that I started putting weight on AFTER I started taking it, especially the Effexor which I added on a couple of months later for hot flashes (although dosing is only 37.5mg, half the minimum dose for depression). |
|
i started HRT about a year ago and i'm about the same size a year later.
I will say that I think my weight has shifted since I started the HRT--i no longer have the "pot belly." |
| Probably the Effexor. |
