why are you being such a jerk here? wtf. |
yeah great idea to insult someone who brings up a topic you actually care about … which Jeff is doing either because he has a weird knee-jerk reaction to any criticism of DC government; or because he doesn’t like my posting history. smh. anyway - anyone have actual insight into how to get this done? |
I was trying to give you insight but you just complained that DC residents who lack representation in Congress hadn't taken care of it already. Do you really want insight or do you just want to complain? |
TAG, as a federal program, has nothing to do with DC's funding choices. |
DC could supplement TAG. DC could prioritize lobbying for it. DC residents could lobby for it directly and through lobbying DC officials. |
DC has a separate program called DC CAP: https://dccap.org This program is funded by DC and supplements DC TAG. DC residents have lobbied for DC TAG and, as I said in my first response to this thread, Eleanor Holmes Norton is a strong advocate of the program. She is effectively our primary lobbyist on the issue. You should write to her and thank her for her past support and encourage her to continue seeking to expand the program. |
You weren’t “trying to give insight.” You were being inexplicably snarky (unless the explanation is you don’t like my posting history or think nobody should criticize DC). |
Sh didn't. I kept expecting to see the announcement for an increase to $15,000. I mean, sure, the program was meant to close the gap between in state and OOS tuition, but the exponential rise in tuition makes this a nice grant, but nothing close to par. One thing people should know...it is now means tested. |
??? this is a nice federal funded program. DC just administers it. |
Let's ask our voting senators about that. Oh, wait. |
If you are a DC resident asking why DC allowed something to be stripped in the Senate, you are essentially putting a "kick me" sign on your back. |
Lobbying DC officials would be preaching to the choir. The people who need to be lobbied are on Capitol Hill. Good luck getting Speaker Johnson on this. I am sure it is a high priority for him. |
I think it’s federally funded because DC is cut off from additional sourced of tax revenue like a commuter tax. You also need to think about improving UDC which could be accomplished with federal funds. Would be great to have a vision for it like Freeeman Hrabowksi had for UMBC. |
UDC has had a ton of money thrown at it over the years and it seems like they change their mission and vision every three years or so. It will never be a fully respected and attended institution, which is why DC-TAG is so important. |
No need to do any more. Certainly not with DC taxpayer money. |
