Have you been to India? There's some truth to it. £125 pounds can feed a small village on their normal diet. I've had high end Indian and everyday Indian and high end seems more about the show than the food. I don't feel or see the need to blow out on what passes for high end Indian. Ultimately all the spices run into each other. I rather prefer southern Indian. Back to the topic, I was last in London for a week last summer. Dining out felt expensive to me because you could spend £100 for two and get an ordinary meal. Self-catering was more enjoyable. |
| Was in London and Paris on vacation last summer and yes, dining out there seemed more reasonable than here on average. |
| £125 is about $160. $160 for Indian food is a lot, even for fancy Mughal emperors which is biriyanis. koftas and kebabs. It's the meat that makes it fancy. Most of the spices are similar. What is intensive cooking styles? Most are stews, curries cooked over a stovetop or grilled meats and breads. Obviously, you don't know how to cook Indian food. |
| Try coming to Asia--you can get a 9 course Indian fine dining meal for under 100$ (closer to 75$ in bangkok or kuala lumpur) |
Obviously, you're a dumbass. |
| Compared to the Inn at Little Washington, London is a bargain. |
well, have you been to rural Italy or rural France? every day food there is good and cheap, and similarly one does not need to fork out $$$ on high end food either. The high end of any cuisine is always about the show rather than the food. I mean really, does a pigeon entree really need to be $40+ in Paris? It's a rat with wings. So +1 to the PP calling out the ethnocentric BS. |
How many meals before the savings makes up for the airfare? Sounds delicious! |
Well, stupid comparison |
This has got to be one of the most ignorant comments I have ever seen. |
| The smell of Indian food makes me yak, even if it is fine dining. I would never pay £125 for Indian food. Ever! |
h You won’t be missed. |
| Dining out is always cheaper and better in England/Europe than in the US. It's always been so. |
The Inn at Little Washington has gone dramatically down hill since about 2014. I've been and stayed there countless times from the 90s and decided not to go back in 2021. |
It’s $368 pp, and even more when paired with wine. Who affords that? Who has eaten there recently? Was it worth it? |
