Similar stature big city schools...NYU. If a little less in academic quality, SMU in Dallas, USD in San Diego. Also a better chance at acceptance for those two.

If you like a co-op program, much more of a safety than Northeastern, but your child has a very good shot at getting in, you might want to look at Drexel in Philadelphia. While you "sacrifice" bragging rights at the dinner table, Drexel will give merit aid to high stats applicants.

Not necessarily. My DC got less merit aid at Drexel than at Northeastern. Attending Northeastern and loving it.
