How do people know their exact day of ovulation?

The ask me how I know thing is stupid. Just say it worked for you twice. No need to try to be “cute.” It’s annoying.

Go f—k yourself. Is that less cute, dipshit

You can buy progesterone test strips and take it the day after you get the peak smiley face to see if ovulation has already occurred. The strips aren’t cheap, but if you test over a couple of months, you can get a better sense of when you typically ovulate.

That being said, I don’t think it’s necessary. I have used Clear Blue for years, both to TTC and to avoid pregnancy. I find the first smiley day on the monitor lines up with a noticeable change in my cervical mucus (stretchy and more slippery than in the High window). After a day the mucus is gone, which lines up with ovulation having occurred.

Are all of you responding that it's obvious not aware that some people don't ovulate or don't do so on a regular schedule? Have you never heard of pcos

The methods being described on this thread like nasal body temperature and cervical mucus work regardless of regularity of ovulation. And the thread is about ovulating, not NOT ovulating. You’re derailing.

I used the ovulation sticks. For my first I wasn’t ovulating, took clomid, got a smiley face and conceived first month I ovulated. For my second we were having sex every other day from flashing smiley to a few days after. Nothing. I had an HSG, started acupuncture, changed to a less stressful job, and had sex every day of the window. I don’t know what (if anything) of those changes helped but after over a year of trying and at age 37 I conceived my second.

When I have ovulated in the past I often have mittelschmerz.

Listen to your body and discharge. It takes many months to get good at it but that's what I do and it always works.

The smug women posting on here are very ignorant, luckily for them, that all these old external methods DO NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE. They should thank all the powers that be that their reproductive functions work within the normal range. They're not smarter or more in-tune than others. They're just lucky.

Other people, like OP, may have atypical cycles, thyroid issues, PCOS or other health problems.

OP, I strongly recommend using Inito. It tracks FSH, LH, and estrogen and progesterone metabolites. It lays it all out for you in a graph that's easy to read. You can track your cycle in its entirety, for several months, and if there's any doubt about interpretation, you can ask online or show the data to your OB-GYN, reproductive endocrinologist or other specialist.

OP here. Last cycle did not work.

I'm currently on cycle day 7. I started the clear blue sticks yesterday, per the instructions (which said to start testing on cycle day 6 if you have a 25-28 day cycle). I got the open circle yesterday.

Today, I tested and got a solid smiley. I skipped right over the blinking smiley. Wtf?

I'm surprised that:
--I didn't get a blinking smiley at all
--I would be at peak ovulation on day 7 of my cycle

It was a fresh pack (brand new reader).

We had sex today, but I am discouraged if I had such a fast ovulatory cycle and won't have any more days to try. And now my sticks are null and void for the rest of this cycle since I got the solid smiley today. So I don't even know if I got that in error or if it's accurate that I only had a fertile window of one day.

I guess I will just have sex every other day between now and early next week. But I hate to be flying blind like this...

For some women, it’s 12 or 48 hours, but “ovulation the day after peak” is a good rule of thumb. And it doesn’t REALLY matter unless you’re both a real outlier on the curve and also mistime sex. But if you have sex when you get a peak reading, sperm is there for the next 12-48 hours.

You probably ovulated on Feb 7 and are 8 DPO today. Test if you want, but 10 DPO is likely safer to start testing if you want to avoid false negatives.

Okay, if that's the case I hope that Feb. 6 sex did the job because we didn't do it for several days after that, thinking my window was over.

The good news is - there's another chance coming right up!

I know the actual second I ovulate because I can feel it, painfully.

OP, what is your objection to tracking basal body temperature? Why haven’t you tried that? Sticks are not the only method out there but you don’t seem open to anything else even though the sticks might not be working for you.

OP here. I might try that next cycle but I'm on CD 10 now so I don't think I can start now. No objection, I just didn't know much about it. I thought the digital sticks would the the easiest/most obvious method.

Now I think that solid smiley must have been wrong. It was only day 7 of my cycle. I went and got the cheapie CVS sticks and tested yesterday (day 8) and today (day 9) and they indicated I was not ovulating. I just think it's slim changes that I had an LH surge for one day only. But...?

I am just going to have sex every day days 9-15 and hope for the best.

OPKs and CM tracking are very reliable for me. Reliable enough that I was able to forgo BBT, which I hated.

How old are you, OP? Cycle day 7 is very early.

It was the same for me- it skipped the flashing smiley. But it worked for me- I got pregnant that cycle.
