Sidwell v. NCS - 4th grade

This. You are statistically unlikely to have offers from either, let alone both

My child applied out for 4th a couple years ago and I let her take a big role in the process because she'd already formed pretty solid opinions about what she wanted from her school environment. We initially applied to Bullis, St. Patricks, NCS, Sidwell, Maret and GDS.

For her, diversity was important and she didn't want a mean girl vibe. After an open house at NCS, she didn't want to move forward with the application. She was the only kid who wasn't attending Beauvoir on our tour and the others were clinging together and not being friendly (even on a tour). She also hated NCS' campus.

Ultimately, she fell in love with Sidwell and she is there now. But as others said, if you don't want to send back to DCPS - it wouldn't be a bad idea to apply to a few safety schools.

This is false. The Beauvoir kids attend their own private tour and open house with just Beauvoir kids. No need to make things up to prove your point.

I will add they do this during the week and walk over together from Beauvoir.

Look - I have no idea why these kids were there. Perhaps they lied when the tour guide asked where they went to school. They said Beauvoir - I believed them.

We also noticed a group of Beauvoir girls at the NCS Open House we attended. Perhaps the Beauvoir kids get their own tour on a separate date but they're also invited to attend the Open House?

Yeah - it's odd that the Beauvoir parents assume that parents wouldn't want to also attend an open house. At the open house, they had trial classes (we were assigned a French class in the basement - and in truth this might have led to my child being extra harsh with her criticism) and our of the 10-12 with us on the tour....at least 8 of them claimed their current school was Beauvoir.

It was mostly all Beauvoir at the open house I attended this fall. ALL the current student panelists were also all from Beauvoir. It did not give the impression that they cared very much about inclusivity despite their words to the contrary.

To your original question - we know a family that moved from NCS to Sidwell because they didn't like the overt culture that focused on material belongings, status, and one-upmanship. I'd argue that Sidwell students have this too but the school itself does try to dampen it in how they operate. They had been at Beauvoir/NCS from PK - moved in 7th. They were happy with the move (but Sidwell is far from perfect).

So tacky to out this person. Not your story to tell. Very identifying and quite frankly says more about Sidwell parents than anything else. It was not too long ago that Sidwell parents contacted college admissions writing comments against fellow students so there is always that....

This doesn't out anyone - you have no idea when this happened and there are others we know who have the same profile but I don't know the reasoning behind it. If you think you know who this is - it's most likely somebody entirely different!

This is exactly what my daughter picked up on. While you still have to contend with the fact that kids at other k-12 schools had been together for years, it was something about the way she felt with their interaction that left her worried to go there.

This is odd. Op is deciding between Sidwell and NCS. Sidwell kids have also all been together for years and only admit a few for 4th grade as it’s not an entry year? There’s no difference in fact you would be one of a few new kids but okay.
