No heartworm meds?

Op here and I am charged for a half visit. I thought this was standard!

To clarify- it’s only to check weight but my boy has been at his full size for many months.

I talked to the vet and they will write a prescription for me for a $20 charge. I said ok but I am going to switch.

The sooner, the better. It’s insane that they’re charging you to write a script!

Yeah, that seems unreasonable. I get that vets need to pay their bills, but that is nickel and diming.

You also don't have to buy the meds from them -- I get mine (and flea-tick meds for the dog and the cats) -- from Allivet (used to be Walmart PetRx).

Our dog gets a once yearly shot for heartworm prevention.

vet here - they are charging you $20 to write a prescription? Not sure what state you are in, but that is not legal in the state I am in. I need to provide a script to an owner if they request it. We have just stopped communication electronically with pharmacies because it has become overwhelming. We have our own online pharmacy that we will send scripts to. If someone wants it elsewhere, we print out and sign the script then send them on their was to figure it out.

BTW- there is also a yearly injection for heartworm called Proheart. Works great!! And monthly Simparica Trio does HW, fleas AND ticks....
