We did this for one of our kids as his last year of daycare/preschool was during Covid and ppl weren't really doing indoor parties (winter bday).
Ours had pizza Fridays but actually the kids did get excited about pizza on a non-Friday, lol. We ordered pizza for the class on his bday. We could bring packaged cupcakes labeled school-safe. We did party hats per a PP and small goody bag that had a toy from Amazon or Oriental Express based on kid's interests. I actually think the bday kid and classmates feel pretty special even from the extra bit of attention. Ours talked for a long time about getting to hand out the goody bags! Definitely talk to the director or teacher first about rules and what would not be burdensome for them. |
Calm down. Some daycares allow food, we have class parties for other holidays. There are rules around it and they are aware of allergies - they have to keep track for the food the daycare serves too. |
I had a kid with milk bottle cavities I was keeping under control with careful brushing and I would have been very irritated to find out my kid got pumped full of sugar at daycare. |
| How about bring every kid a book and have the teacher read it aloud if you can't come. Do not send junk food. |
Do you go to birthday parties that are not at daycare? Like on the weekend? |
I bring a toothbrush and xylitol gel. I do not let sugar sit on his teeth for hours. He had cavities before two and I was able to avoid general anesthesia by stopping the progression of the cavities until he was old enough to hold still for the dentist. Kids are getting way too much sugar and they definitely don't need extra sugar from randos at daycare. |

These are too cute! How do you post images? |
Well, milk bottle cavities come from letting your kid fall asleep with a bottle, which is super dangerous. So now I can't bring candy or sweets to celebrate a birthday (which is super duper common when you have kids in a group setting) because you made poor parenting choices as a new mother? |
It was from hippy breast feeding until age 2, and no, you don't get to pump sugar into other people's kids. What an entitled @ss you are. P.S. Check out the latest childhood obesity stats. |
NHS says "children aged 4 to 6 should have no more than 19g of free sugars a day". A juice box is 10 grams. |
My kid has a dairy and egg allergy. Both of those things would have her in the ER |
Well clearly hippy breastfeeding was a poor parenting choice if you had to then follow him around with a toothbrush every time a grain of sugar touched him. And yeah, your kid is in group childcare and you give up some control, which may include him getting sugar and treats more than you would give him. If you unclench for a minute you will know that him having a cookie or Rice Krispie treat at an occasional daycare celebration is not going to scar him for life. |
They eat pizza every Friday? The other parents aren't worried about junk food then. Bring Happy Meals. |
Good thing you SAH and watch over her like a good mom! |
