Op here, no we are definitely letting her sleep as long as she needs. She naturally wakes up around 8:30a, 9 at the latest. And we keep the house quiet until everyone is up. Even when she plays a sport (off season now) she still didn’t sleep much longer than that |
Op — I feel the same way! |
| I remember taking naps after school just so I could take my 2-3 hours of homework. My son sometimes does the same thing. |
| One of my 3 seems to sleep all the time. Naps after school and multiple times on weekends. Our pediatrician ran blood tests (normal) and said some kids just need more sleep and DS is one of them. Have you had DD tested for anemia? That is a fairly common issue with teen girls. |
| Mine is a total morning person and does ok during the school week when routines are stronger and then falls apart emotionally on the weekends. He wants to go to bed later on weekends and then finds his body just wakes him up at the same time 7 days a week. I don’t want to give a teenager a weekend bedtime but this is getting ridiculous. |
|
I used to fall asleep in class when I was a teen. College too.
My kid comes home from school and sometimes falls asleep at the table, while eating. Of course, he stays up late every night and then has to catch a bus at 7:15, so he isn't getting nearly enough sleep. |
| Mine told me yesterday she’s tired all the time. She sleeps 10:30/11:00-7:00 on weekdays and much longer in weekends. The early start time for school is a killer. |
| Mine doesn’t act it, but if she didn’t have to wake up for school, would sleep 12 hours a day. Her wake up for school is 5:45, which is killing us, but she seems to be managing it the best she can. |
| Same with my two. Sixteen year old sleeps half the weekend. My 13-year-old used to be one of those kids who was like clockwork and had good energy in the morning. This year he is like a zombie in the morning. |
Check blood work for iron levels |
| I sometimes suspect depression? My DD also sleeps a lot. The early morning start times for high school are a killer. We didn't have that--high school was 9-3. My daughter comes home and takes a nap. Sometimes doesn't wake up for dinner. |
When do they do homework? My teens have hours every night if homework. |
| Sure they go to bed, but are they up until midnight on their phones? |
Op here…we have all of our kids leave their phones in the kitchen at night. My dh stays up late so pretty sure she isn’t sneaking out to be on her phone. |
|
Also for girls on their periods, check for anemia. |
