Dollywood and the Smokies are great. If you like to hike, there are some great trails. Once you get on the trails, the crowds really thin out. I’m not an amusement park person, but I enjoyed Dollywood and the kids loved it. Lots of great coasters and the lines, when we were there, weren’t bad. As for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, oh my!!! I expected kitsch and tacky, but it exceeded my expectations in that department. We only did town one evening, and that was plenty. |

We stayed here a couple of years ago https://www.vrbo.com/2549926
It was clean, comfortable beds, great views - I'd stay there again In my experience with vacation rentals, I seem to have better luck with Vrbo than Airbnb, as far as the listing and the reviews being reliable. Good luck! |
| Hidden Mountain resorts. Family owned, huge inventory and all clean and beautiful. |

Forgot the link. Also eat at Apple Barn and the Local Goat. Good food |
| There are so many nice and well-located hotels in the area, I'd suggest one of those rather than a cabin. If you book a hotel in downtown Gatlinburg, you can walk everywhere and won't have to worry about driving and parking until you go to Pigeon Forge or the natl park. |
| How many days would be appropriate to see / do everything at Dollywood amusement park? Also, curious if the water park side is fun / worth it? |
You can do Dollywood in 1 day. Sunday mornings are great because all the locals are at church and its less crowded. If you do more than 1 day, its lots of repetition. I know OP said they are aware of how conservative Pigeon Forge is, but we found our children were really bothered by somethings they saw and we had to have many discussions. (e.g. confederacy museum, lots of guns, many trump souvenir stores that were almost like a shrine, etc) |

I was just there in January and I stayed at the tru by Hilton hotel. They don't have two bedroom suites, but they do have a few rooms with a king bed with bunk beds above it. I suppose you could also get a joining rooms if you need two bedrooms. The place was spotlessly clean and has a rooftop Deck with a fire pit and an amazing view and it's near but off the strip.
I found pigeon forge beautiful but a little weird. The traffic on the main drive was something, but we ventured briefly into the national park and it was gorgeous! I would love to go back in the summer weather and just go there every day to the park. I'd also like to see Dollywood. |

Stayed here and enjoyed the views and the cabin a lot. There are two bedrooms: a lower one with a king and private bath, and an upper one that's sort of open almost like a lot. The upper bedroom has a king bed, a bunk bed, a pool table, and a private bath. Check to see if it meets your preferred bedding configuration. I liked the fact that it wasn't too far up the mountain but still had views. There is a pizza place at the bottom of the mountain road if you don't want to go into Pigeon Forge for dinner.
https://www.reddoorgetaways.com/571405/ As to Dollywood and Pigeon Forge, I wanted to like them more than I did. It was super-busy because of a music competing in town, and people were queued up for dining as early as 4:30 - 5:00 PM. Dollywood had almost nothing to interest me. They do have a lot of musicians who played different genres of music, some of them seemed to be in Dolly's family. Dolly's travel trailer was interesting. There was no theming as at Disney, and all of the rides were either for kids or big roller coasters (except the sooty coal train). |
| good information, I appreciate it! |
