My kids are both in college and my husband bought me a beautiful piece of jewelry after each of them were born. I had heard of the term "push present" at the time but he didn't buy me "push presents". He bought me gifts to celebrate our new children.

I was commenting on an article I read which made me feel out of touch with all the new stuff people do. I learned this has been going on for years.

I got jewelry after each of my children was born but neither my DH nor I every referred to it as a push present.

I have told my kids that I'm leaving those pieces to them in my will.

I heard of this in the early 2000s, but don't know anyone who actually admitted getting a "push present." Always assumed it for the the UMC or wealthy.

Op here. I have seen those before so it doesn't faze me. This term push present sounded weird and I had never heard that term before till this yahoo article linked the reddit post.

For those mentioning presents, my parents and aunt gave my kids expensive presents when they were born. The rest gave small presents when they visited the baby.

This has been a thing for quite some time. It's a really unfortunate, vulgar phrase. But seems like a nice gesture, even if it is yet another example of the commercialization of milestones. It's also super SM friendly -- people are posting their "push present." Ugh, it pains me to write that -- lol.
