CCO guidance on 2024 RD chances/lay of the land

Which is really so dumb since it is the least apples to apples measurement available. So many random out of the student's control issues can factor into it. So many different ways for each teacher, each school, to assess and grade. It's ridiculous.

There’s going to be a ton of RD activity and surprises.

Those that applied widely will probably benefit.

What criteria would you use?

I am a different poster and I am so glad some schools are bringing back SAT/ACT testing as mandatory. That is one way to decipher how college ready students are in my opinion.

Some schools they're grading and the way they present the students on their transcripts is hurting their students. There are more beneficial ways to present grades and classes. The schools that have figured that out are doing better in college placement. Simple.

For those that hired private counselors this year, does anyone have visibility from them on how the college admissions process is going or what to expect in RD?

Hearing so many depressing stories.

What are you hearing? Curious. Flat out rejection to schools they should’ve gotten into? What exactly do you mean?

Hearing that regular decision will be extremely tough all around even to schools that should be a layup (per our private’s historical admissions data).

Why wouldn’t RD be tough when the top 20-30 schools will be getting even more applicants than last year? Upwards of 50K or more for 1000 or so slots after ED? Any everyone shotgunning 20+ apps?

How did ED2 work out for many this year? Isn’t that often the harbinger?

My sense is not great; a lot of auto-waitlists from Emory and WashU.

When do all the decisions come out?

Wonder if juniors are going to be encouraged to aim a bit lower than they had hoped for.

What's an "auto-waitlist"?
