| I can't believe you even have time to think about this. This is really one of your top five concerns in life right now? |
It should be one of everybody's top 5 concerns right now, or we are not going to have breathable air, drinkable water or decent food sources left it the not so distant future. I'd like my grandkids to inherit a planet that isn't going to kill them because our generation actually stopped and tried to make a difference in halting what is happening. |

Actually, it is unclear if buying online harms the environment more than shopping at stores. So if you had not bought the mugs online, what would you have done? Drove your car to Target or another store? So you would have taken one vehicle and used its emmissions to buy one or two items. How is that more efficient than one full truck coming down your street to delivery your package and everyone elses?
I think the catch is "it depends" If you were going to Target anyways, if the original source of the mug is the same (will it still have to "travel" to get to Target or a delivery company), do the deilvery companies have as full as trucks going to houses as they do to stores. Even buying locally isn't a clear cut way to ensure you are being green - unless you know the local person selling the object got all the supplies and manufactured it locally. I do agree that second hand is the greenest option. Not to mention cheapest. |

To 11:17 - my top five concerns are my children, my husband, my elderly parents, my job and being a good Christian.
What are your other four top concerns, other than being green? |
One of them is not being a jerk. Too bad it's not on your list, although I see you have no trouble reconciling jerkiness with being a "good Christian". Tell the other Pharisees hello for me, will you? |
| In other words, no response, huh? |
| Being a good Christian definitely involves caring for God's creation and leaving a healthy planet for my kid, in my book. |
Caring for your children, and being a good Christian both require that you be a good steward of the environment. |
You are terrible. |
You apparently have time to complain about the post. So by your own logic, bitching must be one of your top five concerns. Not exactly Christian. |
I'm not Christian, but I'd imagine that any religion would ask that you care about your and your children's environment. Is that not true? |

I shop at Amazon and I agree with all the PPs who point out that driving to stores (locally) is not necessarily greener. Trucks still have to stock local stores, and those local stores fstill use electricity for a/c and lights.
My personal feeling is buy what you need (from amazon, if you want) but no more than what you need. I think the most environmentally destructive thing is buying needless stuff and too much of it. I have a small apartment (800 sf). When people ask me what I want for a holiday, I tell them I'd love a tickets or a membership. There's a lot of needless stuff we all buy. |

I buy almost everything on Amazon and like others, don't think I am being any less green than if I drove to the various stores myself, particularly if I had to go to more than one store to find what I needed. I think of the fed ex driver who brings me my stuff as one big carpool driver.
I do think about this though. |
