Atlantis - can we stay at the Cove?

She already corrected it’s the Coral. Other end of the spectrum.

Yeah, I would avoid the Coral and do the Reef or Royal if you can't splurge for the Cove.

Don't worry about crime in Nassau. Food is expensive, but you can offset with meal plans or eating in the room.

Kids love Atlantis. There is so much there to do. It was the sweet spot between ages 6-10 for my kid.

You will be miserable there…

If you want a Caribbean beach vacation, there are far better options…with better options for food…and less crowded…and much safer.

Try Aruba or Puerto Rico. Both are reasonably priced and easy for people who aren’t seasoned travelers.

Grand Cayman is also easy and safe.

What are you looking for, exactly?

PS - I know people who literally checked a suitcase with snacks, etc. bc the food costs are so high at Atlantis. Speaks volumes about costs as well as the kinds of people who go there.

We went recently. What people say is true about crowds and cost. Stay at the Reef and don’t leave that side of the resort. Much better and less crowded over there.

OP here. Thanks for the comments! We are looking to go for 4 nights only - so we are limited to relatively close locations. My husband requested beach and pool if possible (as opposed to cruise). We have 3 kids who will be 15, 12, and 9 at the time of the trip.

We travel too much and the budget for this specific trip is fairly low.

Yesterday, I used the Google flights explore feature and sent my husband the following text: Some nonstop flights out of DC for the dates of our trip: Dublin ($784pp/typical price), London ($707pp - typical), Lisbon ($733pp - typical), FLL ($194pp - a little high - could wait), Nassau ($404pp - typical) Key West ($249pp - low), Cancun ($522pp - high / wait), PR ($500 - high / wait), St Thomas ($633/low), Iceland - (287pp- low). any interest in any location?

My husband responded: Nassau might be nice.

(Once many years ago before I had kids, a kid on an airplane told me his favorite trip ever was to Atlantis so I had it in the back of my mind since then.)

So anyway - off I went to look at Nassau hotels. I need 2 rooms for my size group so that also makes everything more expensive. Baha Mar was double the price, and actually so was the comfort suites next to Atlantis. I was surprised to find a room at Atlantis for $220/night. I feel like that’s almost as good of a price as I could get anywhere.

As of right now I’ve also added the meal plan on to our rooms. It’s $98/day for 4 of us and half that for the 9 year old. It includes 2 meals and 1 snack a day.

I thought we would do beaches, pools, aquariums and maybe one day trip somewhere. My husband would have a good time if the kids are entertained and he can just lay at pool or beach. He has been to Atlantis before he met me and not dying to go back but feels like he would be willing to return for that price.

Fwiw - I like some things DCUM doesn’t like - WDW, OBX, cruises.

FWIW, our friends who love WDW, OBX, and cruises did not like Atlantis.

Have you checked Costco Travel for comfort suites deals? Breakfast is included there.

Actually I mean to check Costco. Thanks for the reminder!

Haha thx!

Go to Baha Mar instead. I've been to both and the three resorts (and the grounds) at Baha Mar are far superior to Atlantis, in my opinion. Food is alway very expensive, but I do think it's a much better property.

Believe it or not, Costco is not giving me any better of a deal than I got for myself.

Costco's price was not better than booking it DIY when we went last year--OP, are you sure that's the total all inclusive price for food for 4 people/daily? I'd think that's per person daily based on how expensive everything was overall....

Hang on - I made a math mistake when double checking with Costco.

Here is the price booking on my own:
2 rooms for 4 nights @ $220 each, food package for 5 people (for 4 nights), + shared transport = $4,659.92 plus flights ($2035 - I want to wait to see if prices go down before buying but rn that’s what it is) = $6,694.92 total including all taxes and fees (still expensive IMO for 4 nights even at Coral which is cheapest option)

Costco pkg including all of the above EXCEPT food: $5279.80

I wonder if I could add the food pkg I have on to the Costco plan.

Actually the food pkg that I have is $1755 so if I add that - it makes Costco pkg more expensive.

We are not gluttons but I thought the dining plan would make it easier and such that we wouldn’t be nickel and diming ourselves on food on the trip (which we sometimes do).

Hi - not that anyone needs the update but I think I’ve decided to do a cruise out of Miami to the Bahamas for those dates instead. My husband originally wanted more beach / pool than cruise but I suggested to him that the cruise was a similar vibe if we do the cruise plus we can combine it with a visit to his parents.

It’s not all that much cheaper to do the cruise, BUT if it saves us from a separate visit to his parents that is $$$$.

I’m considering a day pass to Baha Bay on our Nassau day instead of Atlantis but open to feedback
