I stopped eating out and I don't think I'm going back

We stopped eating out during the pandemic and never went back, except for occasional take out or special occasions. I don't miss it.

Same. I'm tired of shelling out a crap ton of money for sub par food. We do continue to go every now and then to a few of the smaller mom and pop "ethnic" establishments whose food I do not know how to cook well/use ingredients I can't get easily.

Me too. I have barely eaten out in three years. My cooking is great plus I use a meal kit. Less expensive restaurant food just doesn’t compare. And I’m not about to spend $100 on dinner, let alone $300. Except for special reasons

I’ve been out to breakfast a few times since the pandemic ended but that’s all for eating out.

I do get my favorite Thai takeout every couple of months but they haven’t really raised the prices much since the pandemic began, same with my favorite Chinese takeout place. I also pick up a takeout pizza once or twice a month even though it’s now at least $5 more than it used to be.

Eating out isn’t a big thing in my life anymore anyway so it’s no hardship - I will certainly eat out on vacation but that’s a different thing.

We often go on roadtrips and we even started packing food for that. Kids were so much happier with our sandwiches than even McDonalds and it was more convenient to pass them out when people were hungry.

For us, the fact that our standard delivery orders have doubled in price, and now are arriving usually with the wrong order, at least one problem with the order, and cold ... not worth it.

I don't see myself going back to takeout/eating out multiple times a week anytime soon. Anyone else?

Translation: I can’t afford to dine out.

This thread is a cope. Sure, some meals out are clunkers. Who cares. I doubt every meal you prepare is amazing.

Agree! It sucks to be poor. I grew up that week. We never ate out. I am wealthy now and enjoy going out to eat. I like being served. I do not want to slave away in the kitchen.

We as a family gave up takeout and fast food, and I will admit, I love how low my credit card bill is this month.

We eat out occasionally but the experience isn't great when everything on the menu is so expensive and you're then presented with a request to tip a minimum 20%.

This is OP and my HHI is 300k.

I’m not saying everything I make is delicious, but even a meh meal that I make is more satisfying than spending $30 on a meh meal with surly service.

Ripoff prices for mediocre food and tipping culture that drives you mad. Apps now running $20+ and entrees upwards of $40+ at throughly mid places. It’s crazy.

DP I can afford to dine out but I choose to spend my money on other things. Every meal I make is amazing.

Our HHI is 700k and we rarely eat out. I might get take out twice a month due to conflicts with making it to kids’s practices but prefer meals we cook at home. I agree that restaurant food is too expensive and also less healthy than my food even if I’m just comparing the salt content.

+1

Someone else said it in another thread, it’s time to let the mediocre restaurants die out.

There are things that I can't or won't make at home that I still go out for. Sushi, ramen, pho, good dumplings. Had great ribs last week that I *could* make at home, just didn't feel like spending a half day with the smoker. this weekend, got an amazing sandwich soup and dessert from a deli - I might be able to make it all at home, but not all at the same time.
