Kennedy Knife Fight

Just mentioning that my kid (Kennedy student) came home that day with the story that there was a knife. She didn't see anything, and she doesn't know anyone involved, but the story that was clearly running through the students at JFK that day at school was that there was a knife. (There is no need to assume outsiders are fabricating malicious rumors, but of course it would be great to verify info before spreading it further.)

When I saw that there wasn't anything mentioned in the principal letter, I figured that this was one of those rumors that gets spread among the kids. When my older kid was at Eastern and Blair when there were incidents with knives, we were certainly informed in the principal letters right away. There is literally no upside for a principal to keep info like that from the parents.

This information was in the 911 recordings, as DMV News mentioned. It's publicly available information. No one is making things up. The principal and MCPS have every reason to hide the fact that a weapon was involved. MCPS has withheld information before in security incidents so there's no reason to believe they wouldn't do it again.

"DMV News" is a 20-year-old kid who listens to the scanners, which, as various PPs have mentioned, often contain inaccurate information.

Then if the information was inaccurate, the principal should have clarified and confirmed that.

To reduce the sprawling fight that resulted in the school moving into a shelter-in-place status down to a "verbal conflict" is disingenuous. Who calls a shelter-in-place for a verbal conflict? No one. That discrepancy alone should tell you that MCPS is withholding facts.

Removing all SROs from schools was a huge mistake on the part of the school board.

Start a petition for the Board to reconsider!

I have the videos. It was real, the knife wielding student was beat up and then pulled the knife and was surrounded by security and other students.
