You absolutely should mix protein (or fiber) with your carb to balance it. This is not a pregame meal for optimum output, this is a meal that also serves as dinner. If op wanted a sports nutritionist she would have asked for one, paid for one, or asked you. |

Mine eats a normal dinner. She’s 11, maybe I’ll put more thought into it if she’s in the Olympics or something. She manages to practice soccer/basketball/ swimming as of now on a normal dinner.
She has a hearty snack afterwards. |
| Eats when they are hungry, before, after does it matter at 11-16 years of age? Tells me when they don’t want certain things before practice from trial, error, living their life. Land the helicopter and walk away from your child and go do something for you |

| Good discussion. Two nights my teen has training at 6, and two nights at 8. It’s quite a drive for one of those so I have to stay there. I usually just get him a chipotle or a big bowl of cereal before training and then dinner/protein shake after training. I think I’ll try to get dinner ready at 5pm and see how it goes. |

I'm the 5pm poster with a Senior and Sophomore.
I found my boys would be so hungry after school that they would just snack on crap. So, since I have always WAH, when they were little and had a 5:30 practice---I started feeding them dinner at 4pm . It was better to fill up on healthy, nutritious things. They would have something after practice later.
Now that they are older and have late practices--5pm works for our family. I used to wait to eat until 7 or 8pm with my spouse---but thankfully post-Covid he WAH too. The other benefit is having family dinners together. |
A full dinner 1.5hr before soccer practice? The practice must be relatively light not to have stomach issues. |
| Our player won't/can't eat before practice. They eat a large lunch and eat after practice - which can be 10:30 pm! They like having protein-rich meals with a smoothie when they get home. |
