We tried a Sunday swim with a summer team and my kid hated it. There was no instruction and no fun. Just laps. Not good for an 8 yo.
We now do Swim Farm and it's better. There's actual instruction, some conditioning, and some fun. My kid is a lot happier and improving. |
Our summer team dropped winter swim for this year. I guess demand was low and of those who would sign up, many wouldn’t show so the team rep probably didn’t think it was worth it. |
Quoting myself to add that a good number of those that want to swim in summer do club or other lessons for instruction rather than winter swim. |
You must swim for Rockville? |
Think of winter swim as just keeping the connection for the summer. Not every kid does winter swim - the ones that show up have a stronger connection with the coaches, and with friends who are there. For us, winter swim is so cheap that it's worth it, even if we don't go every week. They do a handful of clinics and 1-on-1 instruction to help the kids along. |
NP repeating the question- how much are you paying? Most clubs charge around $1000 for the year for a similar experience. Our summer swim team charges a fraction of that. Kids love it because they are doing it with their neighbors.
If your kid has fun, just keep doing it. If your kid hates it, stop - you don’t want him hating swimming. If you want your kid to get better, then sign them up for private lessons or see if you can get them in a club swimming more times a week. Or some of the rec centers have some decent group lessons. |
I wouldn't do winter swim with summer team unless it's cheap and right around the corner from my house. |
