I don’t know what 2/3 of those things are.

Car show/auction and Waste Management Phoenix Open. Golf tournament, but essentially, it's one giant 4 day party.

Not as upscale as the others posted, but the Arizona Grande has a waterpark with a lazy river and our kids loved it. It was the Pointe at South Mountain back when I was in high school there. Had my senior prom there!

We were able to get a room at the "pricey" point vs "insane" point last year over spring break. It's south of Phoenix slightly which i think is part of the discount but the resort was very nice.

I second this. We stayed there a couple of years ago during spring break and had a lovely time. Prices were half what they were elsewhere and I was worried something would be amiss, but it wasn't. Just a little out of the way compared to other resorts.

This is OP: Sheraton Grand was $450ish/nt all in, and Embassy Suites is $330/nt. Have both reserved for now and will decide a bit down the road whether proximity (Embassy Suites) or resort -style (Sheraton Grand) wins out.

Now any recommendations on things to do? We have actually been to Phoenix before and loved Camelback Mntn hike, the zoo, Pietswa Peak hike. Anything else to do in a 2-day trip? We head to GC after that. Only going for 5 days total because that is all the time we have with busy working parents and teens.

Spring training game, more hikes (Tom's Thumb), Papago park/Desert Botanical Garden, pool day, check out Old Town.

Right before the pandemic we did a similar trip, stayed at Arizona Biltmore for maybe $650 a night and it was lovely. Now I am looking and all the major nice resorts (Hyatt, JW, Omni, Hilton) are at least $950 a night and most well into the $1k range. It seems like my only option is a Hampton Inn or Embassy Suites type place.

Does anyone have a mid-range hotel to recommend? The places I did find with reasonable rates like Hilton Scottsdale and Hilton Tapatio have terrible reviews once you go on tripadvisor.

Right before the pandemic was the month of February. Is your spring break at a more desirable time where rates are increased

Oohhh I love costo travel too

I’m the PP who posted about this spot. Definitely go with the Sheraton Grand especially for just two nights. Will make it feel more special vs Emb Suites are everywhere and definitely nothing to write home about.

Agreed. Plus every Embassy Suites that I’ve stayed in always smells like weed, it’s a rather low-budget lodging option.

Not my experience at all, but it varies widely and you do have to read reviews. I wouldn't just stay at a random Embassy Suites (or any other hotel for that matter) without reading reviews.

NP. Any recommendations for a resort which will offer a day pass/cabana rental? We are renting a house with a pool but DC's choice of activity is lounging by a hotel pool.

You can check here: https://www.resortpass.com

But most of the better resorts won't offer a day pass in high season.

Anonymous wrote:Spring break is tough in the PHX area. If you have kids maybe Hilton at the Peak or AZ Grand?

Could also try Tucson, which I’m more familiar with (and is less crowded during spring break) - RC Dove Mountain or Marriott Star Pass maybe. Possibly La Paloma, Ventana Canyon, Hacienda del Sol.

+1. Drive down to Tucson from Phoenix. Tons of great resorts. Go to old Tucson, desert museum, ride horses, Sabino canyon, saguaro national park, and if you want more to do take a day trip down to bisbee and kartchner caverns. There is also spring training in Tucson. Tucson is waaaaay more fun than Phoenix and is also a unesco world heritage site for food. Its 1-2 hour drive depending what part of Tucson you stay in.

Same! Not to derail things, but why is this a thing at Embassy Suites?!

The last one we stayed in was in Saratoga Springs NY and when maintenance came up to address our multiple complaints of weed smoke coming through the vent, they backed out of the room laughing because it was so strong.

OP, I missed your kids’ ages but if they are 8ish or younger, there’s a park in Scottsdale with a steam train ride that my DD absolutely loved. Also, go to In N Out.
