She's overweight with a comorbidity of hypothyroidism. My insurance covers for that circumstance. |
if you are willing to pay out of pocket, since I am not a diabetic and do not meet the criteria, is it fairly easy to get? I am interested in trying ozempic as I know so many who have great success. Do I go to to primary physician for that? |
I use one of the telehealth subscription services. A GP would not have prescribed as I am not obese (but on my way...) and my insurance would not cover. It is a very easy process. I got my vial after a week from a compounding pharmacy. You do have to inject yourself as it comes in needle and not pen form (unless you pay for brand-name, more $$$), but that also was no big deal for me. |
I’m the same stats. How old are you? I’m 50 and my body fat has also increased 10% in last 4 years. Can you post back on this if you end up getting it prescribed? I would like to try too. |
It's interesting. I had coverage for Monjaro but no longer have it this year. I think that as more people turn to compounding pharmacies, the prices for these drugs will have to come down, and they will wind up being covered by insurance for more people. We just have to get to that point. |
And she can either get Zepound or Wegovy. And still join a gym if she likes. |
You are not obese. You should try other medication first like Phentermine, Contrave, etc. |
Primary Care doctor prescribed it, however, no pharmacy in this area has it in stock. I've been getting it through a compounding pharmacy and have lost 70 lbs. Good luck to you |
Here are the indications for Wegovy and Zepbound
obesity (BMI ≥30) or some adults with excess weight (BMI ≥27) (overweight) who also have weight-related medical problems Do you have weight related medical problems? Hypothyroidism is not caused by being overweight so that doesn’t count. Mounjaro and Ozempic are indicated for type 2 diabetes. If not, then these medications are not appropriate for you. |
Washington center for weight management and research in Arlington

Try alfie. |
WRONG! A quick Google search says that hypothyroidism is a comorbidity of obesity. The OP's BMI and comorbidity makes her a candidate for the medications. |
OP's BMI is 27.4. Wegovy really is not indicated for her. |
With her comorbidity, it is. |
. No intelligent doctor is going to prescribe these medications to help OP’s hypothyroidism, regardless of your quick google search. |
