My daughter was accepted to VCU Arts for comm arts, SAIC, and SCAD.
SAIC offered a hefty scholarship spread over 4 years, but I think it still be more than VCU (we are in state). I'm a new poster, and I don't know anything about the art world. Would you consider SAIC or SCAD over VCU? I admit I have a bit of a hangup with art schools and would prefer she get a degree from an actual university. I welcome other poster's thoughts and opinions. |
Love this! |
Hi! I’m currently in the AFO program at vcu, and am interested in the comm arts program, and I am also in the honors program. What was comm arts like for you when you were in undergrad and what did you go on to do after graduating? A lot of students have told me that someone’s success is dependent on how they culminate their own experience so i’m curious to hear about your own. |
| Bumping up this tread as my daughter is interested in attending VCUarts. Appreciate any updates. |
I as well know little about the art world but was impressed by how much SCAD emphasizes preparing grads to work in the art world. That’s the underlying foundation of the school…which is only 50 years old and is now all over Savannah. They offer many practical programs geared to the new economy if that’s a compromise for your kid. Dual degrees in art and technology (some CS some engineering type coursework) and they comment that they have a lot of grads to work for Apple, META et al working on product design stuff. |
Following this thread as another parent to artsy student. SCAD gives me pause given low graduation rate, for-profit status, and expense, although it does seem to have impressive industry connections for what I would think would be for the most “go-getter” students. |
SCAD is not "for-profit". They just manage the school exceedingly well and generate budget surpluses. Let's not make it out to a University of Phoenix or these other for-profit schools. |
If money is a big factor than instate VCU, for all others Yale, CMU, NYU, etc. |
