Is your nanny coming to work today?

We told ours to stay home - we can swing it without her today and didn't seem worth the risk.

...how can this be a "recurring problem" if we only got this much snow for the first time in 2 yrs?

Same. Think about how you’d feel if you were asked to go to work today.

My kids are close in age to OP’s. I initially told my nanny to delay her arrival but at 9:30 I said she could have the day off because my street still hadn’t been plowed, and I was concerned about accumulation throughout the day. DH wanted her to come in because we have no leave left ourselves. But we could telework and had no important meetings, so I didn’t want to risk our nanny’s safety.

Our contract doesn’t have an inclement weather policy because the decision should be based on the specific circumstances, not what OPM or the school system think is right for a broader area.

I trust my nanny to be honest about the road conditions in her neighborhood, and if she said she can’t get out safely, I would believe her. She doesn’t have a 4 wheel drive.
