So over cooking

Personally, I enjoy cooking. But once we had kids, that morphed into the chore known as getting dinner on the table. And I’m over that.

I have ADHd so it is super difficult for me. I find it exhausting. Unfortunately the take-out habit has led to a lot of weight gain for me, so I'm trying to learn how to cook more.

I used to love cooking when I was in my 20s and early 30s. I had a bigger kitchen and enjoyed experimenting. My current kitchen has limited counter space and I have to keep running to a spare pantry downstairs to get ingredients and small appliances/less commonly used pans which makes it really unpleasant. But I think what has most turned me off to cooking is that I spend so much time cooking and cleaning for the family to scarf the food down in 10 minutes and comment that they’d rather have had chipotle, burgers, tacos, etc. And DH never helps cook or cleanup. I’m a SAHM and DH has decided that this is solely my responsibility.

This reminds me of Tampopo - one of the side plots is about a mother who is urged to cook from her deathbed. Her family eats. She dies.

My house keeper does most of our grocery shopping, and some meal prep Monday, so it's easy for her or my self to throw together a nice weekday dinner. Weekends we usually dine out.
