| I just want unscheduled telework. Not a fed but we follow OPM and Wed is our mandatory office day and my kids are FCPS. 2 hour delays suck when I have to go in because I essentially get my kids on the bus, get to work, and need to turn around. |
Listen dingdong, it's not just a matter of layering clothing. A quick drop in temps is going to affect some people's abilities to start their car, or drop the air pressure in their tires. And of course, ice from refreezing. Snow is way safer than ice, but in this are we get a lot of the latter. |
People here have no clue how to drive in the snow and ice. Zero |
| At least a delay, it's very icy tonight and will only be worse in the morning. |
| What does 2-hour delay do? Do you still need to work 8 hours a day? If your tour of duty is 8am to 4:30pm, are you required to work 10am to 6:30pm on the day with 2-hour delay? |
No, you'd work 6 hours, and your day will be so thrown off that it will feel like a complete waste of time to have gone in. |
No, it basically gives you up to two hours of weather and safety leave to get in to work. If you normally leave home at 6:30 when it's dark, you can leave at 7:30 and expect the commute to take longer than normal. So long as you aren't more than two hours late, you can leave at your normal time at the end of the day and not use your accrued annual leave. |
+1. OPM should allow telework for people who can. |
They will. We don’t usually do delays anymore. Bet they’ll call it late tonight or very early in the AM |
Plenty of times OPM has been open while schools remained closed or delayed. They will probably open and allow unscheduled leave or telework. |
I woke up at 12:30 this morning, and today's closure was up. Hopefully, they will post it soon. |
| Tomorrow is my ‘in office’ day. I am fully prepared to go in at my regular time… but I leave my house at 5 am, so IF they are going to announce, I hope it is sooner rather than later (before I leave home…) |
And in your day we were writing in cuneiform on clay tablets. I can do just fine from home since it’s 2024 AD thanks. No need to risk a fender bender, which since you seem new to this millennia, is un-impacted by whether or not you’re wearing a hat. |
Or, as normal and psychotic people describe it, we now give a bit more deference to worker safety. And, yes, happiness. And that's a good thing. No federal office is going to fall apart over a delay in the morning. And if yours does, it has bigger problems. |
