I'd rather just close. |
IME they try to do a delay instead of a closing whenever possible this close to the end of the quarter. They won’t close unless the western roads are bad. |
Its not west vs. east but major roads vs minor roads. Many minor roads are still really bad. |
Less populated roads, by and large. |
No. I live in Sterling and there are many neighborhoods that were poorly plowed or plowed very early and never again. Tons of ice on roads that busses traverse. Roads that schools sit on. If we got tomorrow, there will be issues for sure. But we have a new guy in charge, so he may have to learn the hard way. Many of them do. |
I’ve taught middle or elementary for the past 15 years. I’ve heard parents say there’s no point in sending kids in for a shortened day, but I disagree. For whatever reason, I’ve always found these days to be the most productive days of the year. Maybe because everyone had a little extra time in the morning and we’re all rested. Also, any assembly or standardized testing or other special activities tend to be cancelled on these days. We get so much real schoolwork done! It’s definitely better than closing if it’s not absolutely necessary. |
Except tomorrow there will be zero difference from 7:10 to 9:10. If they aren't going to close, we may as well have just gone on time. Two hours will not melt anything or get us remotely close to 32 degrees. |
His picture still pops up on my phone when the calls come in. Even if it isn't his voice anymore. We miss you, Wayde. |
LCPS website has updated the alert to show a closure for today. |
Makes sense. My Leesburg neighborhood streets look rough. But this presents an issue for me as a teacher because Friday will also likely be a close which means not only will B day get 2 days ahead of A day classes, A day classes lost the last two days of Q2… this calculus is the NOT fun part of snow days |
You can keep the quarter open. My DD’s AP teacher already said she was, and that was before today’s closure. |
Yes but the deadline for posting grades won’t shift so if I keep the quarter open, I am grading writing RIGHT up to the Thursday grade posting deadline which is stressful . This works better when you were already done with work for the quarter and were into Q3 content but will let kids submit stuff - my kids were finishing their major writing summative which takes quite a bit of time to grade, letting them work on it the day grades are actually due makes things tight |
Just saw lcps is closed for the day. My daycare hasn’t announced yet if they’re following for my younger two. I have back to back meetings and a big presentation. Sigh. |
Today's closure was inevitable. Frustrating they didn't do it last night, but if your kids are young/you are new to LCPS, get used to this sort of thing. Me and all my old jaded friends knew by early afternoon yesterday there would be no school today. Thankfully we all have teens now. Brace yourself for a possible delay tomorrow, and then the potential of 2-3 more inches Thursday night. Not guaranteed but keep it in your mind. This whole week could be a wash. |
I don’t think there will be a delay tomorrow! |
