Born and raised in area.
Jobs plentiful after college. Lots to do: museums, concerts, arts, shopping, restaurants, etc. Great schools and universities. Diverse. Near water Excellent airports and train options. My family. |
| I think 90% of world's population would give their right arm to live a middle class life in world's most powerful country's capital. |
| *upper middle class |
In other words you don't live in DC? |
We could be friends in real life. |
That sentiment might have been true many decades ago but DC fell of the shelf a very long time ago.... |
+1. I could have written this. Plus a great place to raise kids. Free museums, zoo, plenty of urban entertainment, and you can walk right from the city into Rock Creek Forest and go to a nature center or take a hike. Also so easy to get out into nature with just a 30 - 40 minute or so drive out of the city. Lots of seasonal festivals too. |
It sounds like you can manage to be miserable in any part of the world. |
| High intelligence of neighbors and schools. Concern with education. Great high paying jobs. Beautiful neighborhoods. So much growth. Many events, shows, concerts, activities, museums, parks, trails, lakes, libraries, churches, community centers, restaurants, shopping, etc. There’s so much to do and experience within a short drive. Housing appreciation rate. Mix of natives with transplants. |

best place for a nonprofit/policy person like me and a former military member like my husband
I grew up in the mid-atlantic and have family roots in the DC burbs. We had looked into a couple other places, and I am now thankful those did NOT happen |
| Dc fits every stereotype |
| Im from here. |

Moved here after college. Met spouse who is 2nd generation DC native and who never wants to leave. So that's why I'm stuck here. But it wasn't a bad place to end up. And it's improved a lot over the past 3 decades.
I wish I lived somewhere that had a real winter and less summer heat and humidity. But having family nearby (in-laws) is a tradeoff. |
Just because you don’t know the natives doesn’t mean they don’t exist. |

Jobs brought us here.
Love the museums and different events. Hate the congestion and traffic, it's really hard to get out of the area on holidays. |
