But don’t you want your kid to be able to say they went to Sidwell friends? That is more impressive than most colleges my friend.
|
| It's not so much about prestige but more about the future alumni network. The kids will benefit from that for a long time. |
And that is the distinction that tells us who our people are -- and essential for surviving Big 3 parent activities. |
| Because parents in this town are obsessed with prestige and money and work so hard to obtain them that they have no time for and neglect their children. They think that putting their kids in certain private schools makes them by definition good parents. It makes them feel less guilty for their neglect, while also allowing them to mix with other parents in the same boat at cocktail parties. |
Not all our parties are on boats. |

You seem to think you have all of the answers OP. So, why are you posting here?
Some people like "status" cars, houses, clothes, etc. I like elite name schools. To each his/ her own. |
| The OP was more like a lecture than a question. |
Why is that impressive? |
High standards. |
| Who would be so impressed that it would result in some tangible benefit? |
The people offering us high salaries. |
Nah, just people who should be taxed more. |
Lots of schools have high standards. Why is one school with high standards "more prestigious" than another school with high standards? |
Many people have high salaries. |
| People who focus on prestige do so out of fear. |
