Would he like The Martian (with Matt Damon)? I have a 13yo and it is his favorite. A little harrowing but not too bad. Gravity is another one he liked but won't watch again because it stressed him out too much.

True. But after the first oh crap this is a musical?! moment it's really not too bad on the musical end of things.
